Urethral Prolapse is an eversion of the urethral mucosa that is associated with chronic urethral bacterial infection. Attempts have been made to replace it surgically but this has not met with much success. There also seems to be some relationship with sexual excitement and masturbation. Most veterinarians advise castration at the time the prolapsed is amputated. The corpus cavernosus urethra is entered with amputation of the prolapsed and post surgical hematoma is a significant complication. Through and through mattress sutures can be used to prevent this complication during repair.
