Esophageal regurgitation with pulmonary aspiration is a significant complication. The earlier the obstruction is removed, the better the prognosis for clinical resolution of regurgitation issues. The esophagus will never return to normal as it is permanently changed. It may resolve its dilation and stretching somewhat. The important issue is resolution of regurgitation. This is treated with surgical removal of obstruction, food consistency testing, and elevated alimentation.
